Commitment Guide

0 - 3

Low SPR

Commit with top pair+. Great for big pocket pairs.

3 - 7

Medium SPR

Commit with overpairs and strong top pairs. Two pair is very strong.

7 - 13

High SPR

Need two pair or better to stack off. Sets become very valuable.

13+

Deep Stacks

Very selective. Look for nutted hands, sets, and strong draws.

What is SPR?

Stack-to-Pot Ratio (SPR) is your effective stack divided by the pot size. It tells you how much money is at stake relative to what's already in the pot, which helps determine your commitment threshold.

Why SPR Matters

Lower SPR = easier decisions. With SPR of 2, you're essentially committed with any reasonable hand. High SPR requires stronger hands to justify stacking off.

Preflop Planning

Smart players manipulate SPR preflop. With AA, you want low SPR (3-bet to build pot). With 87s, you want high SPR (call to see cheap flop and potentially win big).

Quick Reference

SPR < 4: Top pair is good enough to stack off
SPR 4-10: Need overpair or better
SPR > 13: Sets and nutted hands only
